OUR VINEYARD
Blackcoat Wines is a family-owned boutique winery located on the north facing slopes of the Strzelecki Ranges, near Warragul in Gippsland, at an elevation of approximately 1000 ft. And yes, the views are spectacular!

Our commitment to excellence begins in our vineyard, with its fast-draining red/chocolate clay soils planted with the highest quality cool climate varieties including Pinot Noir, Riesling and Chardonnay.
By planting the vines close together (7000 vines/ha versus other Australian vineyards at 2000-3000 vines/ha) it leads to heightened competition among them. This in turn stimulates the growth of superior quality grapes which exhibit a delicate balance of elegant flavours.

Each evening, cooling valley breezes induce notable fluctuations in daily temperature changes within the vineyard. This phenomenon enables fruit to fully ripen whilst preserving optimal levels of acidity, crucial for a harmoniously balanced wine.
Our dedication to producing complex wines is further enhanced by planting multiple types of natural clones of each variety. These natural clones are deliberately planted in blocks with different row orientations, culminating in wines accentuating a delightful, multi-layered flavour profile.
